Here are some quick tips that may resolve some of the more common issues:
Frigidaire Washers
SLOW OR NO FILL, OR WATER TOO HOT OR TOO COLD
Over time, the strainers can get clogged up and prevent water flow.
-
- Shut off the water valves; remove the hoses
-
- Look into the both ends of each hose and into the water valve mounted on the washer. You should see a strainer screen.
-
- If it is clogged, you can use a toothbrush to try to clean it. If unable to clean the screen, replace it. If the screen is not removable, replace the hose or valve.
-
- If integrity of the hose is questionable, replace it. This is cheaper than a new floor or carpeting.
-
- If the strainers are clean, set your water temperature control to “warm” and start the fill cycle.
-
- Lift the top of the washer and depress the lid switch. Feel the water temperature.
-
- If it is too cold or too hot, or no water is coming out, the solenoid coil may be bad.
-
- If you are not able to resolve these issues, call LAFIXIT – we guarantee you will like our service!
Frigidaire Dryers
1)NOT DRYING
Poor airflow is usually the cause of clothes not drying well.
-
- If you are not getting a strong, steady airflow from the vent, check your lint screen
-
- Make sure the flexible dryer hose is not kinked or pinched off somewhere
-
- In some machines, there will be no noise or the dryer probably may not sound normal.
-
- Start the machine empty, open the door and look inside by quickly by depressing the door switch to see if the drum is turning.
-
- If not, the belt or belt tensioner may be broken. At this point, you can attempt to repair it yourself or call LAFIXIT and they will do the rest!
-
- If the motor has gone bad, you may see similar symptoms, except that you probably will not hear the motor turning. If the motor is locked up, it may buzz. Call LAFIXIT.
2) LOW HEAT / NO HEAT
-
- This can be caused by poor airflow in all dryers, especially in gas dryers. Check the dryer vent and exhaust as described in above.
-
- This can also be caused by a problem with the air heating system
-
- Or this may be a thermostat issue. Call LAFIXIT! We can get it going in no time!
3) DRUM CONTINUES TURNING WITH DOOR OPEN
The door switch needs replacement.
4) NOISY OPERATION
Many of these issues are a result of worn out drum supports. This is a very common in older dryers. If a belt tensioner pulley seizes up or the tensioner spring breaks you may hear loud noises from that as well. Unless you are confident in your abilities to make such repairs, call LAFIXIT. Our professional technicians will have you doing laundry in no time!
Frigidaire Ranges
-
- Be sure to disconnect the gas pipe if working on gas cooking equipment
-
- When reassembling, test the pipe joint for leaks
-
- Always unplug the unit or trip the breaker when disassembling. If you need to repower the unit to perform a test, ensure that there are no exposed wires or terminals – tape or insulate them. Power up only long enough to conduct the test, then shut it down again
-
- If your owner’s manual suggests replacing the part, REPLACE IT!! It stopped working for a reason. If you are thinking of repairing and re-installing it, you run the risk that it will go out again. Parts are cheap – usually $10-20.
-
- When you remove an electrical component, replace the green leads. NEVER remove the third prong! That is the ground.
-
- Keep in mind that sheet metal is very sharp—be sure to wear gloves when opening the oven cabinet
-
- Test the outlet with a small lamp or hairdryer.
-
- When doing repairs, remember that you will need special grade wires, nuts and connectors. Ask the professionals at the hardware store.
